Listening to Your Inner Voice

The whale spirit animal is the earth’s record keeper for all time. As a totem, the whale teaches you about listening to your inner voice, understanding the impact your emotions have on your everyday life and following your own truth. When the whale enters your life, it may be time to closely examine where you are, the actions and emotions that have brought you to this point, and what you can do to alleviate existing drama and unrest and find peace. Those who have the whale as their animal totem is in touch with true reality. They are nurturers and go-getters who understand there is more to this life than meets the eye.

How to create an atmosphere of safety and trust in your inner world and in your inner voice! This chapter from the power of focusing covers:

Let it be as it is
Being in a relationship with your feelings
Being a good listener to yourself
Being a friend to your felt sense
Hearing all the voices
The wisdom of not knowing
Following the felt sense

I like your interpretation of whale teachings. I spend a lot of time each winter watching (and communing with) the Southern Right Whales that come to Warrnambool to have their calves. I have never yet seen a person watching the whales who isn’t smiling. There presence seems to feel everyone with happiness.

It is wonderful. I have also done some shamanic journeying with whales under the guidance of a shamanic healer friend. I was thinking about the whales when I woke up this morning and felt that their teaching as I perceive it is to find your joy and ‘speak’ with your authentic voice. I interpret ‘speak’ as expressing your authentic self in ways that are truest for the individual – be that the spoken word, the written word, art, music, dance etc.
I hope you don’t mind me putting forward my own opinion but the whales are an integral part of my own shamanic understandings. In many ways they guided me to the spiritual path I am now following.

Now there’s a challenge. Maybe it is time to do something like that. Currently I am deep in study about the Native American Medicine Wheel. I made one in my backyard a year ago and my understanding of it has grown a lot since then. I’m learning about ways the Wheel can be used to deepen psychological understandings of the self. A lot of Shamanic journeying is experiential but it’s good to put these things in words. I’ll post links to anything I write on Artistic Almshouse. Thanks for your interest and support 🙂
